Dorothy Gelens
Nurse Manager Post Anaesthetic Care Unit, Forté Health​

I have been an integral part of Forté Health since its beginnings. A registered nurse trained at the Christchurch School of Nursing, I have worked across the public and private sectors, including experience leading post anaesthetic care and building high performing teams. I came to Forté Health prior to its opening to assist with the establishment of the post anaesthetic care unit (PACU), which opened in 2013. I was a Team Leader in the Unit before progressing to the role of Nurse Manager.

As well as providing day to day patient care, I manage both the PACU and orderly teams. I enjoy the recruitment and development of both teams and strive to maintain high levels of team engagement.  I am passionate about delivering exemplary patient care and am always looking for innovative ways to improve the patient journey. As a result, I have led several quality improvements at Forté Health, including a major programme to improve the Hospital’s paediatric experience.
I am a member of Forte’s Quality Risk Management group.
